Meet our Longmont Veterinarian & Staff

We are a family pet animal hospital in beautiful Colorado

Family Pet Hospital makes pets happy by keeping them healthy with state-of-the-art care and exceptional service. We provide compassionate preventive, therapeutic, and dental care to achieve optimal health and quality of life for dogs and cats from pediatric to end-of-life stages.

Molly Abernathy, DVM, Veterinarian and Owner

Dr. Abernathy founded Family Pet Hospital in 2015. She’s wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as she can remember; she honestly doesn’t remember wanting to be anything else, and never found anything she enjoyed more, so she stuck with it. With a love of puzzles and biology, people and customer service, and of course dogs and cats, veterinary medicine was a natural fit. Dr. Abernathy loves that animals are truly themselves, no matter what. She finds fulfillment in advocating for them and helping pet parents understand more clearly what’s going on with their pet, and in taking a pet who’s in pain or uncomfortable and improving their quality of life. At home, Dr. Abernathy has four cats: Fern, who is blind; Forest, who is noisy and pretty active; Frank, who is very sweet and very pretty; and Florence, her newest, a bottle-fed kitten who’s now grown into a wonderful terror of the household. Outside of work, she treasures her faith, knitting, gardening, and reading, but most of all her family; she spends her time with her husband and their three daughters, the lights of her life. Fun fact: during vet school, she traveled to Ghana with a group of vet students to help at a zoo and a veterinary hospital. “Working with a team that truly cares about pets and people as much as I do,” Dr. Abernathy says of what she loves most about being part of Family Pet Hospital.

Rebecca Cross, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Cross joined the Family Pet Hospital team in May 2019. She comes to us from the same neck of the woods as Dr. Abernathy and Dr. Richardson. She grew up in Austin, Texas, and graduated from Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. She began her career as a general practitioner in Texas before moving to Colorado in 2002, where she practiced emergency medicine for more than ten years. Dr. Cross has been happily married for over two decades and has two children. Her family is rounded out by her two dogs, Onyx and Biscuit, and Velcro, a formerly feral cat who chose to adopt the Crosses more than the other way around. A fun fact about Dr. Cross: she loves to sing karaoke! “I love the patients we get to care for, the team, the family environment, and the fun we have at Family Pet Hospital,” Dr. Cross says.

Rani Reuter, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Reuter joined the Family Pet Hospital team in May 2021. Born in California and raised in Wyoming, she graduated from UC San Diego before earning her veterinary degree from UC Davis in 1996. She completed her internship at Alameda East in Denver, and has called Colorado home since 2016, when she moved from San Diego. Dr. Reuter has wanted to be a vet since she was 5 years old, drawn to her love of animals and their humans. She finds joy in learning each family’s relationship with their pet and strengthening that bond through care that matches their priorities. As she puts it, animals’ joy, innocence, and trust make her want to strive to be better all the time, and the comfort they provide to their people, and to us, is unmatched. As a general practitioner, she loves getting to experience puppyhood through geriatric care and getting to do it all: internal medicine, surgery, dentistry, and preventative medicine. At home, Dr. Reuter has a lab mix named Mako, a cat named Iris, and two leopard geckos, Gary and Chuck. Outside of work, she’s an avid trail runner, and enjoys skiing, traveling, and going to music events. Fun fact: she was in the pilot season of Emergency Vets on Animal Planet! “We are truly a family, everyone works together and performs their role expertly and with such compassion, kindness and respect,” Dr. Reuter says of what she loves most about being part of Family Pet Hospital.

Sasha Richardson, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Richardson joined the Family Pet Hospital team officially in August 2023 after working relief shifts with them. Originally from Texas, Dr. Richardson graduated from Texas A&M University in 2003. Becoming a veterinarian was a childhood dream she never outgrew. She has always loved animals, and she enjoys working with her hands and the variety each day brings, from surgery and dentistry to medicine, pediatrics, and geriatrics. What she loves most about working with animals is getting to know each pet’s personality and the role they play in their family, and seeing the human-animal bond in action. A mom of four, she also shares her home with two cats: Tony, a confident and happy orange tabby, and Phil, a reserved and docile gentleman. Six chickens round out the crew. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, watching her kids’ activities, hiking, spending time outdoors, and playing the piano. Fun fact: she married her high school prom date. They went as friends, and the romance quickly followed! “I love that we’re privately owned with great leadership, an exceptional staff, and a true team environment,” Dr. Richardson says. “We have fun at work, love what we do, and work well together. Everyone truly cares about the patients we treat and is skilled in their role.”

Cynthia — Practice Manager

Cynthia joined the Family Pet Hospital team in July 2026. She came to veterinary medicine through a career change, but her love for animals goes back to childhood. Her family raised Boer goats and she spent her early years in 4-H which was a pivotal point in her love for animals. With a soft spot for dogs and cats, Family Pet Hospital felt like an instant fit when the opportunity presented itself to join the team. What she loves most is the connection with both the animals and the people who love them, and she takes pride in helping create a space where pets feel safe and owners feel truly cared for. At home, she has a bernedoodle named Sunny Flower, the resident cuddle bug and comic relief; a standard poodle named Remy, who is just as goofy; and Hopper, a bearded dragon who is so fun to watch. Outside of work, she and her husband are always chasing the next outdoor adventure, from spontaneous drives to time by the water. Being close to a river with a beautiful view is one of her favorite parts of living in Colorado. Fun fact: she’s a lifelong Disney lover and loves to cook! “I love the culture, the amazing team, and the care we provide,” Cynthia says. “The doctors here provide excellent care, and I’m proud to be part of a team that feels like family.”

Hannah — Lead Nurse and Registered Veterinary Technician

Hannah joined the Family Pet Hospital team in July 2025. Hannah chose veterinary medicine because she wanted to help both animals and their owners. At home, she shares her life with three animals: Sadie, a 13-year-old Dachshund; Boo, a 12-year-old Chiweenie; and Chickpea, her 4-year-old kitty. Outside of work, Hannah loves being outdoors, whether she’s hiking, running, biking, or enjoying time on the water.
“I love how we work to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress, the doctors and staff, and how much we all care about the people and pets,” Hannah says.

Christina — Lead Client Care Professional

Christina joined the Family Pet Hospital team in August 2018. Animals have always been her first love, so choosing veterinary medicine was a no-brainer. She’s been rescuing stray dogs in her neighborhood since she was a teenager. Christina loves everything about working with animals, from watching them grow up from puppy to adulthood, to the relationships she’s built with pet owners along the way. At home, Christina has one dog, Ray, a 2-year-old black lab. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening and reading. “I love FPH so much, I’m so honored to be a part of this hospital,” Christina says. “I love watching the growth we have achieved over the last 8 years. My co-workers are the best, and so are the DVMs.”

Talyn — Registered Veterinary Technician

Talyn joined the Family Pet Hospital team in April 2019, finding her place shortly after graduating from CSU (go Rams!) with her bachelor’s degree in Zoology. Although she was born in Louisiana, Colorado has been home since she was just one year old. At home, Talyn’s family includes her partner Zach, their two kitties Parmesan and Crockpot, and their angel dog Zoey. In her free time, she enjoys trying new food and traveling. “The culture and my fellow vet med ladies,” Talyn says of what she loves most about being part of Family Pet Hospital.

Eve — Registered Veterinary Technician

Eve joined the Family Pet Hospital team in October 2023, bringing with her a lifelong love of animals and helping people. She’s been in the field since 2010! Eve loves getting to meet all the kinds, colors, types, and personalities that come through the door, and the love from old grey faces holds a special place in her heart. At home, Eve has three Shiba Inus named Fugu, Imoto, and Red, a cat named Magpie, and a horse named Chevy. Outside of work, she enjoys horseback riding and exploring with the puppies.
“Our team!!” Eve says of what she loves most about being part of Family Pet Hospital.

Erin — Registered Veterinary Technician

Erin joined the Family Pet Hospital team in July 2026, bringing with her a late-career change into veterinary medicine after years working as an EMT, firefighter, and phlebotomist. At home, Erin shares her life with Harlow, a Belgian Malinois, and three cats. Outside of work, she’s happiest tending to her plants, traveling, and reading. Fun fact: she has four kids who are almost grown! “The connection, everyone really is team minded,” Erin says of what she loves most about being part of Family Pet Hospital. “Coming to work is a breath of fresh air.”

Katelyn — Registered Veterinary Technician

Katelyn joined the Family Pet Hospital team in April 2024. A Colorado native, she’s been drawn to animals from a young age, whether nursing neighborhood pets back to health or bringing home strays, something she’s still guilty of! She graduated in 2019 with her Associate’s degree in Animal Science, which kick-started her career in veterinary medicine. Katelyn enjoys making a positive difference in the lives of not only her patients, but their owners too. In her free time, you can find her out in the mountains UTVing with her husband and dogs. “The tight-knit relationship with coworkers and the continuity of care, watching puppies and kittens grow up and caring for them their whole life,” Katelyn says of what she loves most about working at Family Pet Hospital.

Bridget — Veterinary Assistant

Bridget joined the Family Pet Hospital team in July 2026. Originally from Orlando, Florida, she made her way to Colorado in 2016 and went on to earn her Biology degree from CU Denver in 2021. Animals have been part of Bridget’s life for as long as she can remember. From convincing her parents to adopt pets as a kid and pet-sitting for neighbors, to working in kennels, volunteering with wildlife rehabilitation centers, and working in animal sanctuaries, she found her way into veterinary medicine naturally. She loves connecting with animals on a deeper level and getting to know their individual personalities, and says she feels a special sense of comfort and safety in their company, completely herself and free of judgment. At home, Bridget shares her life with her corgi “son” Dale Beans, two cats named Kitty and Goku, and a brave little leopard gecko named Buca di Gecko. On her days off, you’ll likely find her out exploring nature, or at home crafting, writing, or reading with a cat in her lap. “I deeply admire the culture, the people, and the service we provide to pet owners,” Bridget says of what she loves most about being part of the team.

Mae — Veterinary Assistant

Mae joined the Family Pet Hospital team in August 2026. Originally from Texas, she tries to get back home as often as she can manage. Mae has had a soft spot for end-of-life care with pets ever since she was 11 years old, when she said goodbye to her first cat. She’s currently enrolled in Penn Foster’s veterinary technician program and is eager to grow her knowledge any chance she gets. At home, Mae has three cats, Shiro, Chihiro, and Yuta, and a spoiled dog named Winry. Most of her days off are spent with her husband and their pets. When she’s out and about, you’ll likely find her at a live music show, out hiking, or spending time at the ranch her parents have here in Colorado. “I’m glad I joined FPH, and I’m excited for this team,” Mae says.

Lex — Veterinary Assistant

Lex joined the Family Pet Hospital team in 2023, and returned in August 2026 after a short time away. Lex has held a passion for vet med since growing up in the deep south around so many different animals, rehabbing racing greyhounds as a child, adopting every stray, having farm animals, and volunteering at her small town vet clinic and humane society from ages 10 to 14. As she puts it, animals are truly the embodiment of love: there’s no better feeling than working with a fearful kiddo who needs a little extra attention to feel as comfortable as possible, and they let you know with all the love in their bodies. At home, Lex has three amazing, stinky pets: her firstborn Lucy, a Mini Schnauzer mix who came to her abused and broken and taught her patience and true love (her soulmate); Ouija, her sweet tuxedo boy who loves to remind you when the Churu is late; and Grim, a black cat and the worst animal you’ll ever meet, the baby of the family. Outside of work, Lex loves spending time with her husband and best friend, her animals, reading, and reality TV. Fun fact: she’s double jointed and used to be a ballerina! “The culture, the way you walk in and immediately feel as if you’re a part of a family and have been friends forever,” Lex says of what she loves most about being part of Family Pet Hospital.

Laurie — Technician Assistant

Laurie joined the Family Pet Hospital team in August 2023. She hails from California and brings the sunshine with her! Prior to joining the team, Laurie was a dog walker for years before transitioning into veterinary medicine, and her passion for client communication and patient care is evident in all she does. When she’s not at work, Laurie enjoys reading, drawing, and spending time with her husband and their terrier mix, Mr. Higgins. Fun fact: she likes to dance in front of the animals in the back, and they adore it! “I love getting to know the owners and their pets, and seeing the incredible bonds that people have built with their animals!” Laurie says.

John — Technician Assistant

John joined the Family Pet Hospital team in November 2022. He’s been in the vetmed field for going on 8 years now. He grew up with animals, and both his parents were vet techs, so he’s always had some type of animal in his life. As he puts it, he’s not sure he could do anything else. John found his way to vetmed during COVID, after being laid off and deciding he needed a change of pace. He started out pet sitting and walking, and eventually realized he enjoyed it enough to make the switch into a full career. He loves working with pets, animals have always felt easier to understand than people, and every day brings a different experience. John’s household is quite full: three cats, Mischa, Ozzie, and Little Bear, along with Ludi the Sheltie and Pancake the Aussie. The kitties are all seniors, but Pancake is only 2, so she keeps everybody feeling young and fit. Fun fact: John has paperwork tracing his family line all the way back to the Mayflower. “I love being at Family Pet because every day is a new, different challenge, and I love the people I work with,” John says. “They are some of the most caring and competent people I have ever had the pleasure of working alongside.”

Emily — Technician Assistant

Emily joined the Family Pet Hospital team in March 2023. Emily is a Kentucky native who moved to Colorado in 2018, bringing along her two furry friends, Paxton and Paisley. Like so many of the friendly faces you’ll see around Family Pet Hospital, Emily fell in love with animals at a young age while volunteering in shelters. Since then, she has turned her passion into her profession, working first in kennel environments and now in the veterinary field. When she’s not working, Emily enjoys spending time at home with her fiancé and their four animals.

Kimberly — Client Care Professional

Kimberly joined the Family Pet Hospital team in October 2020. Originally from the Midwest, she has made Colorado her home for the past eighteen years. With degrees in both Computer Science and Psychology, Kimberly made the switch from the corporate world and found a home in the veterinary field, where she’s able to feed her passion for helping animals while also interacting with clients and helping to improve the lives of both pet and owner. When she’s not working, Kimberly enjoys spending time with her daughter, their puggle Chloe, and their cat Albus. “Family environment, team, and fun pets,” Kimberly says of what she loves most about being part of Family Pet Hospital.

Phoenix — Client Care Professional

Phoenix joined the Family Pet Hospital team in June 2026. Phoenix was drawn to veterinary medicine to support pet owners and their pets, and to make an impact on clients. She loves making relationships and knowing everyone’s furbabies (and the furless ones too). She’s always been an animal person, having had all sorts of animals her whole life, and she can’t walk past an animal without saying hi. At home, Phoenix has a blue heeler, a dalmatian mix, and a crazy orange cat. Outside of work, she enjoys hanging out with her husband, friends and going on adventures. “I love that Family Pet Hospital lives up to its name,” Phoenix says. “It truly feels like a huge family, from co-workers to our clients.”

Faith — Client Care Professional

Faith joined the Family Pet Hospital team in September 2026. She’s worked with pets for years across many fields, including dog daycare, pet sitting, and dog grooming. After taking a break from working with pets, she realized how much she missed it, and she’s so honored to now work in the veterinary field. Faith loves meeting a variety of pets and making a difference in their lives. At home, Faith has two dogs named Valor and Alice. She loves going on adventures with them in the Rockies and around Colorado, and enjoys traveling around the country to visit national parks. When she’s at home, she likes playing cozy video games and cooking. “I love the care that Family Pet Hospital puts into ensuring that every pet and pet parent gets specialized personal care, and am so fortunate to be part of such a great team,” Faith says.

Eve, Registered Veterinary Technician

Somehow, from being born in England to having spent time in Scotland, Holland and Texas, Eve’s path led her to Family Pet Hospital right here in Longmont. After graduating from Vet Tech Institute of Houston in 2010, Eve landed in Colorado in 2012 with a passion for exotics as well as a warmth for frosted faces and elderly pets. Outside of work Eve and her husband devote their time to exhausting their pack of three Shiba Inus and snuggling with their two kitties Noah and Magpie.

Katelyn, Registered Veterinary Technician

Katelyn is a Colorado native that has been apart of the Family Pet crew since April 2024. From a young age you could find her helping nurse the neighborhood pets or bringing home stray animals, which she is still guilty of. She graduated in 2019 with her Associates of Animal Science which kick started her career into veterinary medicine. She enjoys making a positive difference in the lives of not only her patients, but also their owners. In her free time you can find her in the mountains UTVing with her husband and dogs.

Talyn, Registered Veterinary Technician

Talyn joined Family Pet Hospital after closing the book on two years of corporate veterinary care to pursue a more personal and individualized hospital environment. She graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in 2018, but her passion and love for animals started in her adolescent years. Most of her summer days were spent volunteering at animal shelters, pet sitting for family and friends, and spending time with her childhood dog, Benny, who she happily loved for 15+ years. Talyn currently shares her home in Loveland with her boyfriend and one-eyed Labrador Retriever named Zoey and rescue kitty Parmesan . Her life away from the hospital is often spent gardening, reading, and hiking.

She loves the diversity of work she is able to do as a general practitioner and enjoys establishing lasting relationships with the clients and pets she tends to. John, Technician Assistant

While new to veterinary medicine himself, John was raised by two veterinary technicians, making him the perfect addition to Family Pet Hospital’s medical staff. Having grown up on a farm, John’s love of cats in particular runs deep due to pets that graced his childhood. During the pandemic John opted to invest in his love for animals and devoted himself fully to veterinary medicine after years in IT. When not working John enjoys spending time with his wife, their dog Ludi and their two cats, Corvo and Bear.

Emily, Technician Assistant

Emily is a Kentucky native who moved to Colorado in 2018, bringing along her two furry friends Paxton and Paisley. When not working, she enjoys a good hike in the mountains or curling up on the couch for a movie with her pups and boyfriend.

Walter, Chief Feline Officer

Walter came into Dr. Abernathy’s life in Lubbock, Texas when he was about 9 weeks old. She took one look at him and fell in love. He was “raised” by her black lab, Isaac, and her chocolate lab, Anna. While he interacted with the other cats in her home, he always felt he was closer to the canine species. After years of “ruling the roost,” he decided to bring his love of dogs and people to Family Pet Hospital. Now he is in charge of warming office chairs, greeting clients, helping dogs understand how cats are in charge, and being an Instagram star.
