Molly Abernathy, DVM, Veterinarian and Owner

Dr. Molly Abernathy is the Owner and one of five Veterinarians at Family Pet Hospital. She opened Family Pet Hospital in 2015 to fulfill her dream of offering tailored care for dogs and cats in an environment that reduces both the pet’s and the owner’s stress levels. She graduated from Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 and has completed advanced training in emergency medicine, small animal dental care, and veterinary acupuncture. She is particularly passionate about dentistry, dermatology and pain management. When not working with the pets and clients of Family Pet Hospital, Dr. Abernathy spends her time with her three beautiful daughters, her husband, her blind special needs kitty Fern, and, of course, Walter.

Rebecca Cross, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Cross joins us here at Family Pet Hospital from the same neck of the woods as Dr Abernathy and Dr. Richardson. Dr. Cross grew up in Austin, Texas and graduated in 1997 from Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She was a general practitioner in Texas for five years before moving to Colorado in 2002 where she practiced emergency medicine for over ten years. In 2012 Dr. Cross earned certification from Colorado State University’s Veterinary Medical Acupuncture program (MAV). Dr. Cross has been married for 21 happy years and has 2 children. Her family is completed with Tipsy, the family’s Pomeranian and Velcro a formerly feral cat that chose to adopt the Cross’ more than the other way around.

Tara Dedolph, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Tara Dedolph was born and raised in southern Wisconsin. She attended veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin, and shortly after graduating moved to Colorado. Since then, she has spent her time caring for pets of all kinds. While she absolutely adores dogs and cats, she has a special passion for exotics, especially rabbits! Dr. Dedolph is particularly passionate about husbandry and preventative care for everything from lizards to gerbils while fostering positive relationships between her pet patients and their families. Dr. Dedolph’s free time is dominated by hiking or doing agility with her Australian Shepherd, Fig and spending quality time with her zoo of rabbits, reptiles, and fish.

Rani Reuter, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Rani Reuter, our newest Associate Veterinary, joins us as an experienced and passionate doctor. Dr. Reuter attended the University of California- Davis, where she graduated in 1996 with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She spent her internship in Denver where she was part of the first season of the Animal Planet show Emergency Vets. Dr. Reuter and her husband have three children, three goats, numerous chickens, two dogs, and four cats. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, skiing, backpacking, and loves to travel. In practice, Dr. Reuter truly loves being a general practitioner and family doctor. She enjoys the challenge of surgery and the puzzle of internal medicine cases, but especially loves interacting with and educating clients, helping each owner develop the desired relationship they seek with their fur kids.

Talyn-Headshot-2022

Talyn, Registered Veterinary Technician

Talyn joined Family Pet Hospital after closing the book on two years of corporate veterinary care to pursue a more personal and individualized hospital environment. She graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in 2018, but her passion and love for animals started in her adolescent years. Most of her summer days were spent volunteering at animal shelters, pet sitting for family and friends, and spending time with her childhood dog, Benny, who she happily loved for 15+ years. Talyn currently shares her home in Loveland with her boyfriend and one-eyed Labrador Retriever named Zoey and rescue kitty Parmesan . Her life away from the hospital is often spent gardening, reading, and hiking.

Lex, Veterinary Assistant I

Lex is a Florida native who grew up surrounded by animals; if it walked on four legs and stumbled onto their farm, it had a home. Spending her early years volunteering in a small town animal shelter and playing nurse to strays that came through, Lex discovered her passion for veterinary medicine. Turning that passion into a career, Lex began her journey in veterinary medicine in Client Care where she honed her love for small and exotic animals. Over the years, Lex transitioned from Client Care to Nursing and loves every aspect- though she has a soft spot for her frosted faced patients. When Lex is not at work, she can be found with her sidekicks Goose, a 5-year-old miniature Schnauzer, Paws a Maine-Coon and her beloved black and white kitty, Ouija, binge watching reality tv and looking for the perfect pancake recipe.

Tessa-Headshot-2022

Tessa, Veterinary Assistant I

Tessa was born and raised to work in the Veterinary field seeing as her mom is a Veterinarian herself. Growing up in a small town in Kansas, Tessa spent time at her mother’s clinics as a kennel technician and eventually a veterinary assistant. Tessa joined Family Pet Hospital after her and her boyfriend decided to take a risk and move to Colorado this past Spring. When she is not at work, you can find Tessa paddleboarding, hiking, and swimming and spending time with her two dogs and cat.

Eve, Registered Veterinary Technician

Somehow, from being born in England to having spent time in Scotland, Holland and Texas, Eve’s path led her to Family Pet Hospital right here in Longmont. After graduating from Vet Tech Institute of Houston in 2010, Eve landed in Colorado in 2012 with a passion for exotics as well as a warmth for frosted faces and elderly pets. Outside of work Eve and her husband devote their time to exhausting their pack of three Shiba Inus and snuggling with their two kitties Noah and Magpie.

John, Technician Assistant

While new to veterinary medicine himself, John was raised by two veterinary technicians, making him the perfect addition to Family Pet Hospital’s medical staff. Having grown up on a farm, John’s love of cats in particular runs deep due to pets that graced his childhood. During the pandemic John opted to invest in his love for animals and devoted himself fully to veterinary medicine after years in IT. When not working John enjoys spending time with his wife, their dog Ludi and their two cats, Corvo and Bear.

Emily, Technician Assistant

Emily is a Kentucky native who moved to Colorado in 2018, bringing along her two furry friends Paxton and Paisley. Like so many of the friendly faces you’ll see around Family Pet Hospital, Emily fell in love with animals while volunteering in shelters at a young age. Since that time, Emily has turned her passion into her profession working in both kennel environments and now in the veterinary field. When not working, she enjoys a good hike in the mountains or curling up on the couch for a movie with her pups and boyfriend.

KP, Client Care Professional

KP joins Family Pet Hospital as a Client Care Professional after years of services as a Veterinary Technician. After a recent stint out of veterinary medicine she decided to join our Client Care Team and ensure every owner who comes through our doors is greeted by her big, bright smile! She has been in the field since she was fourteen years old and brings with her a bevy of medical knowledge and passion. When she is not at work, KP can be found at home with her two cats Alice and Toby, or hiking while listening to Missy Elliot..

Walter, Chief Feline Officer

Walter came into Dr. Abernathy’s life in Lubbock, Texas when he was about 9 weeks old. She took one look at him and fell in love. He was “raised” by her black lab, Isaac, and her chocolate lab, Anna. While he interacted with the other cats in her home, he always felt he was closer to the canine species. After years of “ruling the roost,” he decided to bring his love of dogs and people to Family Pet Hospital. Now he is in charge of warming office chairs, greeting clients, helping dogs understand how cats are in charge, and being an Instagram star.
