Molly Abernathy, DVM, Veterinarian and Owner

Dr. Molly Abernathy is the Owner and one of five Veterinarians at Family Pet Hospital. She opened Family Pet Hospital in 2015 to fulfill her dream of offering tailored care for dogs and cats in an environment that reduces both the pet’s and the owner’s stress levels. She graduated from Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 and has completed advanced training in emergency medicine, small animal dental care, and veterinary acupuncture. She is particularly passionate about dentistry, dermatology and pain management. When not working with the pets and clients of Family Pet Hospital, Dr. Abernathy spends her time with her three beautiful daughters, her husband, her blind special needs kitty Fern, and, of course, Walter.

Dr. Cross joins us here at Family Pet Hospital from the same neck of the woods as Dr Abernathy and Dr. Richardson. Dr. Cross grew up in Austin, Texas and graduated in 1997 from Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She was a general practitioner in Texas for five years before moving to Colorado in 2002 where she practiced emergency medicine for over ten years. In 2012 Dr. Cross earned certification from Colorado State University’s Veterinary Medical Acupuncture program (MAV). Dr. Cross has been married for 21 happy years and has 2 children. Dr. Dedolph is particularly passionate about husbandry and preventative care for everything from lizards to gerbils while fostering positive relationships between her pet patients and their families. Dr. Sasha Richardson is the third Texas vet to join Family Pet Hospital. She grew up in Houston and graduated from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She spent the first twelve years of her career working as a general practitioner at a small animal clinic in Loveland. As her family grew she transitioned to relief work at hospitals throughout Northern Colorado, which led her to Family Pet Hospital. She fell in love with the practice and is excited to set down roots surrounded by such a caring and talented team of professionals. She loves the diversity of work she is able to do as a general practitioner and enjoys establishing lasting relationships with the clients and pets she tends to. When not at work Dr. Richardson enjoys gardening, being active outdoors and spending time with her husband of twenty-two years, her four amazing children, and her dog Marley and two cats, Phil and Anthony.

Molly W., Practice Manager

Molly is proud to call herself a Colorado native and has spent the past two decades working with animals in both the medical and sheltering world. Though she has a special place in her heart for our furry friends her true passion is helping the people who also love animals! Focused on client/patient care and employee satisfaction she strives at building a “family” within the practice she manages. She is also very interested in animal behavior and geriatric care. When not at Family Pet Hospital she spends her time with Julep, a tiny little havanese mix and a spicy black cat named Salami.

Lindsey, Lead Registered Veterinary Technician

Lindsey was born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado and started her path in veterinary medicine in 2011 at another general practice clinic in Colorado and received her RVT in 2015. She discovered her passion for small animal surgery and anesthesia during this time and decided to move to Austin, Texas to work at a Specialty Hospital in the surgery department in 2018. She expanded her knowledge and also discovered a new passion of training and managing a team and soon became the creator and co-trainer of the training program within the surgery department. She met her husband, Austin shortly after moving to TX and was married in 2020. They found out they were expecting their first child in 2023 and made to decision to move back to CO to be closer to family. Lindsey continued her work in specialty surgery after moving, but due to changing family circumstances, needed to step away. She graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in 2018, but her passion and love for animals started in her adolescent years. Most of her summer days were spent volunteering at animal shelters, pet sitting for family and friends, and spending time with her childhood dog, Benny, who she happily loved for 15+ years. Talyn currently shares her home in Loveland with her boyfriend and one-eyed Labrador Retriever named Zoey and rescue kitty Parmesan . Her life away from the hospital is often spent gardening, reading, and hiking.

Lex, Veterinary Assistant

Lex is a Florida native who grew up surrounded by animals; if it walked on four legs and stumbled onto their farm, it had a home. Spending her early years volunteering in a small town animal shelter and playing nurse to strays that came through, Lex discovered her passion for veterinary medicine. Turning that passion into a career, Lex began her journey in veterinary medicine in Client Care where she honed her love for small and exotic animals. Over the years, Lex transitioned from Client Care to Nursing and loves every aspect- though she has a soft spot for her frosted faced patients. When Lex is not at work, she can be found with her sidekicks Goose, a 5-year-old miniature Schnauzer, Paws a Maine-Coon and her beloved black and white kitty, Ouija, binge watching reality tv and looking for the perfect pancake recipe.

After graduating from Vet Tech Institute of Houston in 2010, Eve landed in Colorado in 2012 with a passion for exotics as well as a warmth for frosted faces and elderly pets. Outside of work Eve and her husband devote their time to exhausting their pack of three Shiba Inus and snuggling with their two kitties Noah and Magpie.

But Joel has been an animal advocate for even longer than that. His love for animals drives his need to be in this field. Joel has worked on numerous pets throughout the years ranging from avian friends to reptiles to our furry housemates, cats and dogs. He recently moved to Colorado for a change of pace and has settled here at Family Pet. We’re looking forward to Joel’s extensive time in the veterinary field bringing a new perspective to us here at Family Pet. Joel has 4 cats of his own currently. Aly, Veterinary Assistant

Aly grew up in a small town in Iowa surrounded by a large family that had beaks and feathers, fur and whiskers, and scales and tails (and also my parents and 3 brothers). My love and passion for taking care of animals started as soon as I was old enough to volunteer at the local humane society. Several years of being a volunteer turned into several more years of being formally employed as an animal caretaker. In 2015 I moved to Colorado where my passion led me to the beginning of my career in the field of veterinary medicine- initially working as a kennel assistant/client care professional followed by 7+ years as a veterinary nurse. Outside of work, I spend my time with my large family that is now made up of my daughter- Wednesday; my 4 cats- Pugsley, Penguin, Mr. Purrfect Peanut Butter Sparkles Face (Slim for short), and Fluffernutter; my 2 dogs- Brutus and Sir Reginald; and my hermit crabs- Jack, Jackie, Jacqueline, and Jacque.

Walter, Chief Feline Officer

Walter came into Dr. Abernathy’s life in Lubbock, Texas when he was about 9 weeks old. She took one look at him and fell in love. He was “raised” by her black lab, Isaac, and her chocolate lab, Anna. While he interacted with the other cats in her home, he always felt he was closer to the canine species. After years of “ruling the roost,” he decided to bring his love of dogs and people to Family Pet Hospital. Now he is in charge of warming office chairs, greeting clients, helping dogs understand how cats are in charge, and being an Instagram star.
